MEE: Solid waste imports to basically reach zero by end of 2020

On January 17, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) disclosed at a regular press conference in January that China's solid waste import management system reform continued to make significant progress in 2019. On the basis of two consecutive years of remarkable achievements in 2017 and 2018, China successfully completed the target of reform in 2019. In 2019, the total import volume of solid waste in China was 13.478 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 40.4%, and 56 kinds of solid waste have been adjusted to be prohibited from import. Up to now, the types and quantities of solid waste imports have decreased by 76% and 71% respectively compared with those before the reform (2016), and the country strives to basically achieve zero import of solid waste by the end of 2020 and complete all reform tasks in an all-round way.
