1. Market Highlights
In December, the supply of manganese flake was sufficient in China due to high operating rate, while downstream demand was limited. With the end of the year approaching, major manganese flake plants in North China, in order to recoup funds, sold their products at Tianjin Port at low prices and signed orders for January in advance . Therefore, market participants were pessimistic about the future market . Manganese plants in South China also quickly cut the EXW prices for manganese flake to avoid overstock, and the market saw active transactions . Prices for manganese flake 99.7%min were close to RMB10,000/t (USD1,453/t), and those for some orders that do not require immediate delivery was as low as RMB9,800/t (USD1,424/t) . At the end of this month, the spot supply in Chongqing's Xiushan County, Hunan's Huayuan County and Guizhou's Songtao County was tight, and the bidding prices for manganese flake from Chinese steel mills in January were slightly higher than the market expectation, which strengthened producers' confidence in insisting on prices to some extent . As a result, the decline in manganese flake prices slowed down . At the end of December, most manganese flake plants and suppliers held back from selling, and the spot market saw rare low-price products, so prices for the material edged up.
Most overseas downstream consumers of manganese flake are pessimistic about the future market due to the sufficient supply in Chinese market, continuously depressing export prices of Chinese traders. Moreover, due to the Christmas Day holiday, overseas demand has been poor since mid-to-late December, and export prices keep falling.
On the whole, prices for manganese flake 99.7%min showed a downtrend this month . At the end of December, mainstream prices for Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min were RMB10,200-10,400/t (USD1,482-1,511/t) EXW D/P, down by RMB500/t (USD72.65/t) from the end of November . Export prices for Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min stood at USD1,440-1,470/t, down by USD60/t from the end of November.
