1. Market Highlights
In early December, transactions for imported manganese ore were limited in China and downstream consumers forced down prices, so prices of the material edged down. Then from mid-to-late December, demand for manganese ore was released with manganese alloy plants making reserves for winter, in addition to the support from rising manganese alloy prices, manganese ore prices rebounded sharply as a result.
Silicomanganese producers generally held large inventory and some suppliers cut offers to relieve stock pressure early this month. But forced by high production cost, producers began to raise offers from mid this month, while traders kept purchasing with small volume in order to ensure orders. Then in late December, silicomanganese prices rose sharply in South China due to tight supply and the prices varied a lot in North and South China.
In early December, the HC ferromanganese market saw prices edge down affected by high inventory and strong desire for lower prices from downstream consumers. Then after mid-December, producers raised offers encouraged by rising silicomanganese and manganese ore prices. In the first half month, MC ferromanganese prices also went down as the demand slipped further, but after the middle of the month, the prices edged up supported by cost.
