Ningxia announces plan to combat air pollution from industrial furnaces and kilns

The Department of Ecology and Environment of Ningxia, together with other three provincial departments, recently issued an action plan to fight and control air pollution from industrial furnaces and kilns, aiming to fully upgrade the industrial furnaces and kilns, ramp up effort to control pollution, improve the comprehensive management system on air pollution, and effectively control the total emission of carbon dioxide from major industries including iron & steel and construction materials by late 2020, so as to achieve the continuing recovery in air quality and the sound development of relevant industries.
Industrial furnaces and kilns are the major sources of air pollution. In accordance with the plan, this year, Ningxia will carry out investigations on the basic information about industrial furnaces and kilns, promote the industrial restructuring, and exercise strict control over related construction projects and so on. For Yinchuan metropolitan area, furnaces fueled by coal gas and with inside diameter of less than three meters would be eliminated by late 2020, and for industrial zones which generally use coal gas and have no conditions for natural gas as fuel should jointly build clean coal gas plant.
In addition, Ningxia will implement stricter control on pollution by setting special emission limit of air pollutants for key industries in Yinchuan metropolitan area this year. The government will also implement preferential tax policy strictly in accordance with the environmental protection policy, along with electricity price differentiation policy. At the same time, Ningxia would speed up the elimination of backward production capacity of industrial furnaces and kilns.
