MPI: China's steel demand expected to be 874 million tons in 2020

On December 12, China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute (MPI) released the forecast of China's steel demand in 2020. According to the operation analysis of downstream industries of steel, China's steel demand in 2020 is expected to be about 874 million tons, with a slight decrease year on year. Steel consumption in the construction sector will be 475 million tons, down by 0.6% YOY; that in machinery industry will basically maintain the current level, with the annual volume of 142 million tons; that in automotive sector will be about 48.2 million tons, down by 3.6% YOY; and that in energy sector will be 34.5 million tons, up by 1.5% YOY.
