A study from Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan recently showed that Ma'an has about 12 billion tons of silicon with a purity of 99%, and the local market consumes 22,000t a year.
Jordan's silicon reserves are concentrated in places like the upper Negev River, Petra and Ain Beida. It mainly uses silicon in sand, optics, crystals, solar energy systems and the manufacture of glass.
The ministry suggests the construction of an industrial city for silica sand products to produce 255 kinds of products that can replace imports to promote the development of the local mining industry.
