Iran accounts for 62% of crude steel production in Middle East

Rahmani, Iranian industry, mining and trade minister, said on Monday that the country holds a 62% share of the Middle East's total crude steel production and it is planning to further increase this share.
Rahmani said that Iran has achieved a balanced steel production chain. He said that global steel production increased by about 3.5% last year, while Iran's growth was 6.5%. In the past few years, Iran's steel production has been growing. In the latest ranking of the World Steel Association (WSA), Iran's ranking in the world's largest steel producers has risen from 13th to 10th.
In late January of this year, the WSA announced that Iran's crude steel output in 2018 was 25 million tons, ranking 10th among the world's crude steel producers. The report said that despite the US sanctions against Iran, Iran's crude steel industry is in good shape. It's estimated that Iran's share of global crude steel production in 2018 is 1.38%.
