Shandong insists on transition for energy-intensive industries

Shandong sees an urgent need to speed up the adjustment of its economic layout, further cut backward and excessive production capacity and promote energy conservation as the province's seven energy-intensive industries, including iron and steel, local refining, primary aluminum and coking, take up nearly half of the total energy consumption but the interests and taxes they pay only account for 12%, said Wang Xiao, Deputy Director of Department of Industry and Information Technology of Shandong, at a press conference on September 27.
According to him, Shandong will make big adjustments to its seven energy-intensive industries in the next ten years. The province issued an action plan on stepping up the high-quality development of the seven high energy-consuming industries last year. Since 2019, the action plans for iron and steel, local refining, coking and primary aluminum have already been approved and issued by relevant governmental departments, with those for the remaining three industries subject to approval. Shandong will continue to advance the transition for energy-intensive industries, optimize the promotion mechanism, and develop a more accurate risk prediction as well as counter measure.
