  • Rio Tinto signs agreement with China Baowu on carbon emissions reduction across steel value chain

    On September 25, Australian-based iron ore producer Rio Tinto reached a preliminary agreement with two Chinese partners on development and implementation of new methods to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental performance across the steel value chain.

    Rio Tinto chief executive stated on a report that the company has established cooperative partnership with China's largest steel producer, China Baowu Steel Group and Tsinghua University. This pioneering partnership across the steel value chain will bring together solutions to help address the steel industry's carbon footprint and improve its environmental performance.

    According to Rio Tinto's announcement, a working group that build up based on the agreement will establish a joint action plan on how to best utilize the three parties' complementary strengths in research and development, technologies, processes, equipment, logistics and industry coordination.
