Although magnesite miners in Haicheng were prohibited from mining, magnesite from other regions was not allowed to flow into Haicheng and the material of Haicheng was stopped from being transported to other regions, the supply of magnesite was not in serious shortage in August 2019 as most magnesia producers held sufficient stocks. Due to great pressure of stocks, prices of all magnesia declined to different degrees with those of high-purity magnesia down most. The demand for refractory products weakened further in August as domestic steel mills were required to further restricted production.
Affected by the escalation of the Sino-US trade war, it's more difficult for Chinese exporters to export magnesia in August. What's more, the intermediary trade of Chinese magnesia and magnesia products in Vietnam was blocked by the Vietnamese government, resulting in more unfavorable factors for China to export these products.
