Responsible SteelTM, the first global multi-stakeholder certification standard for the steel industry led by Arcelor Mittal, has been approved in London Olympic Park and will be officially launched by the end of this year.
Responsible SteelTM aims to establish a unified global certification standard for the entire steel value chain from mining to production to sales. The certification covers the following areas: climate change and greenhouse gas emissions, water resources responsibility and biodiversity, human rights and labour law, community relations and business integrity.
The certification standard will provide a channel for steel producers to prove that their production processes and products conform to social, environmental and ethical standards. At the same time, the certification standard will also help to ensure the reliability of steel product procurement and reduce supply chain risk.
At present, Responsible SteelTM is composed of 19 full members and 18 associate members, covering the fields of steel producers (Anplon, AncelorMittal, Bosch Steel, Hualing AncelorMittal Automotive Plate Co., Ltd . and Austria Steel Union), financial institutions (HSBC), automobile manufacturers (BMW and Daimler) . NGOs (International Union for the Conservation of Nature, Wildlife Conservation International, etc . ) and related industry organizations (International Tin Industry Association, International Zinc Association, etc . ).
