Chinese steel pipe company first succeeds in initiating API standard revision process

Sources from Baosteel Tube, Pipe and Bar Business Unit had it that the company has been approved for revising related API (American Petroleum Institute) standards to include its Seamless Petroleum Pipe On-line Cooling Technology ("the Technology") into the API system, and the revision process will be launched soon. This is the first time that Chinese steel pipe company is authorized to conduct API standard revision.
The Technology, co-developed by Baosteel Research Institute, Baosteel Tube, Pipe and Bar Business Unit and Northeastern University, is the first of its kind around the world. But as major oil fields in China commonly adopt API standards while the Technology has not been included into the API system yet, Baosteel can't produce pipes produced with this Technology. In June 2019, Baosteel attended the API annual meeting at which it submitted a proposal on including the Technology into the API system. Since API imposes quite strict reviews on such applications, Baosteel was not granted the approval until three revisions on its proposal have been made and the final version proposal was approved with no negative votes at all.
