Inner Mongolian steel mill adds new production capacity illegally

On 5 August, People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region released the publicity on central environmental protection inspection rectification tasks execution, showing that 14 rectification measures have passed acceptance check of related local authorities.
According to the publicity, Hinggan League Ulanhot Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. violated the national policy on solving excessive production capacity and added production capacity illegally in 2005, including one sintering machine of 120m2, one blast furnace of 616m3, one converter of 70t and one bar production line with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons. The construction was finished in 2016 and the company's production capacity increased to 1.5 million tons per annum from 600,000 tons per annum. On 30 December, 2015, when the main part of the project was basically finished, Hinggan League Environmental Protection Bureau gave an official reply to the environmental impact assessment report, but related local authorities failed to stop construction of the project in a time manner.
In order to rectify, Hinggan League Ulanhot Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. purchased 1.1 million tons of pig iron production capacity and 770,000 tons of crude steel production capacity from Etuoke Banner Huaxin Building Materials Co., Ltd. under Inner Mongolia Xingguang Coal Group and replaced 600,000 tons of steelmaking production capacity by shutting down two converters of 35t, finishing all replacements of illegally added iron & steel production capacity. The company now owns a legal steelmaking production capacity of 1.369 million tons and 1.32 million tons of ironmaking production capacity. Related persons in charge were investigated and punished.
