1. Market Highlights
Prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese leading markets kept falling down in the first half of June, discouraged by the shrinking demand from downstream industries. They showed sharp rebound in the second half of the month, supported by the cooling down of tension between China and the U.S. and the pollution curbs in North China. Wire rod prices rebounded much sharply than rebar prices did as wire rod stocks were much lower than those of rebar. The demand from downstream industries remained weak in the low season, so there was little improvement for the market transaction after prices went up fast. In the international market, prices of wire rod and rebar in Malaysia went down gradually after the Ramadan holiday, when the demand from downstream consumers kept sluggish. Insiders think prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese market will fall down slightly in the coming month on sufficient supply and weak demand.
