The Emergency Management Department of Hunan recently issued a statement calling for the closure of coal mines with an annual capacity of 90,000t or less
If the coal mines that should be closed refuse to withdraw voluntarily, the local government will organize Emergency Management, Ecological Environment, Natural Resources, Coal Supervision and other departments to strictly implement safety standards to weed out unsafe coal mines.

Besides, the province will resolutely shut down or clear out coal mines with an annual capacity of less than 300,000t that have been suspended for a long period of time; it will resolutely shut down coal mines that fail to meet safety standards and have an annual capacity of less than 300,000t; it is also going to resolutely close coal mines whose mining areas overlap with those of national nature reserves, scenic spots and historic sites, as well as drinking water resource reserves and whose annual capacity is less than 300,000t; no coal mine that fails to meet safety and environmental protection standards shall be allowed to be retained.
