Shanxi to rectify illegal sewage discharge

On May 31, Department of Ecology and Environment of Shanxi Province issued the "Notice on rectification of illegal sewage discharge" (hereinafter referred to as "Notice"), and requires cities to concentrate on self-examination and self-correction of environmental problems within one month, to carry out comprehensive rectification of illegal sewage discharge from July 1.
According to the Notice, the major responsibilities of enterprises shall be implemented; development environment for enterprises shall be improved; self-examination and self-correction shall be comprehensively conducted; illegal sewage discharge shall be severely punished. From July 1, the Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment will organize cross-inspections throughout the province. Those, who do not take the initiative to rectify or fail to rectify the existing illegal sewage discharge, shall be strictly investigated and punished according to law. For repeated offenders and illegal sewage discharge the public strongly response to, the "blacklist" system will be established and incorporated into the social credit information system; daily penalties, seizures, production restrictions, administrative detention and other compulsory administrative measures will be took according to the law; suspected crimes will be resolutely transferred to the judicial organs for criminal responsibility.
