Japan's crude steel output down by 2% YOY in FY2018-2019

According to statistics released by Japan Iron & Steel Federation, Japan's crude steel output was 102.89 million tons in FY2018-19 (from April 2018 to March 2019), down by 1.9% YOY. It has decreased for the second consecutive year.
In FY18-19, Japan's total output produced by converter was 76.85 million tons, down by 3% YOY; output produced by electric furnace was 26.04 million tons, up by 1.8% YOY.
Officers of Japan Iron & Steel Federation said that the decline in Japan's crude steel output in the previous fiscal year was mainly affected by natural disasters. In addition, the problem of steel plants' facilities also affected the decline in converter output.
