On the morning of 29 March, Zhanjiang Iron & Steel under Baosteel formally started construction of its No.3 blast furnace project.
In order to further improve the overall competitiveness of Zhanjiang Iron & Steel, meet national requirements on supply-side structural reform, positively advance layout optimization and structure adjustment of iron & steel industry, promote regional industrial transformation and upgrading and boost high-quality development of regional economy, Zhanjiang Iron & Steel plans to construct the No.3 blast furnace project. Preparation stage of the project was started from January 2018 and capacity replacement and fining process were finished in September 2019. The project passed the review on energy conservation in December 2018 and got EIA approval in February 2019. After all preparations are made, the project enters into the construction stage.
Giving full play to No.1 and No.2 blast furnaces, the project will add sintering machine, coking furnace, blast furnace, converter, continuous casting, hot rolling, cold rolling as well as related public and auxiliary facilities and the No.3 blast furnace is expected to be put into operation in July 2021. Upon completion, the output of iron melt will increase by 4.02 million tons, that of liquid steel will increase by 3.6 million tons, that of hot-rolled products will increase by 4.5 million tons and that of cold-rolled products will increase by 1.66 million tons. By then, Zhanjiang Iron & Steel will have an annual production capacity of 12.25 million tons of iron melt, 12.528 million tons of liquid steel and 10.81 million tons of steel products.
