1. Market Highlights
There were rare transactions for silicomanganese in China in January. On the one hand, expecting a price decrease, consumers were reluctant to purchase; on the other hand, prices of upstream raw material manganese ore slightly dropped, so silicomanganese buyers kept forcing prices down, while suppliers were willing to slightly reduce quotations to promote sales and clear inventory before the Chinese New Year holiday. Silicomanganese prices dropped by around RMB300/t (USD44.16/t) in January.
Spot prices of manganese ore in China declined in January. Import prices manganese ore dropped by USD0.38-0.50/mtu, and spot transactions went down accordingly. Consumers have finished replenishment before January preparing for the holiday, so the transactions were scarce this month.
