China Baowu signs cooperation agreement with CNNC and Tsinghua University

On the afternoon of 15 January, China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited (China Baowu) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on nuclear energy, hydrogen manufacturing and metallurgy coupling technology with China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Tsinghua University. The three parties will cooperate with each other and share resources to establish a world-leading nuclear metallurgy industry alliance.
Based on the agreement, China Baowu, CNNC and Tsinghua University will set up a strategic cooperation liaison meeting system and carry out in-depth industry-university-institute cooperation to create a world-leading nuclear metallurgy industry alliance by giving full play to their advantages in nuclear energy, aiming to expand application fields and boost development of nuclear equipment manufacturing industry, material R&D industry and other related industries. Taking China Baowu's development needs in iron and steel industry into consideration, they will integrate nuclear technology into steel smelting process and coal chemical process to achieve the extra low emission target for carbon dioxide and set an example in the industry. In the short term, three parties will increase investment in R&D, accelerate study and incubation of key technology and seek strong support from the central government and relevant authorities.
