1. Market Highlights
Transaction prices of silicomanganese 65/17 in Chins kept dropping in December. On the one hand, as some steel mills in Hebei were under production restriction, the demand for silicomanganese went weak. HBIS's total purchase volume decreased by nearly 7,000t compared with November. Meanwhile, although some small plants in Guizhou and Guangxi suspended production owing to the narrowing profit, the total supply of silicomanganese was still large. On the other hand, prices upstream raw material manganese ore decreased continuously, so did the production costs of silicomanganese; steel mills kept forcing prices down, and alloy plants had to continuously reducing quotations to promote sales under the pressure of capital flow. In Europe, enquiries increased, so did the prices; however, in the US, the price remained stable with soft demand.
Spot prices of manganese ore in China kept reducing in December. Prices of downstream silicomanganese dropped, and manganese ore consumers made purchases on rigid demand and had no intention of replenishing. Import prices of manganese ore decreased by USD0.3/mtu, so did spot prices of manganese ore accordingly.
