Iron ore prices continued dropping at the beginning of the month depressed by the slowing demand as steel mills cut operation in response to increasing environmental protection pressure. Later as steel prices gradually rebounded and supply of imported iron ore decreased with Western countries entering Christmas and New Year holiday, prices of imported iron ore quickly climbed. Prices of domestic iron ore also followed uptrend in some provinces. Generally speaking, downstream steel market still faced downward pressure in the month when downstream estate industry stagnated during winter in North China. As a result, prices of iron ore may slide again in January when supply of imported iron ore would improve as the holiday will be over in Western countries.
