China's imports of bauxite up by 25.0% MOM in Nov

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Dec 18 - According to China Customs, China imported about 7.65 million tonnes of bauxite in November 2018, up by 25.0% MOM and 30.6% YOY. In the first eleven months of this year, China's imports of bauxite totaled around 75.49 million tonnes, up by 22.6% compared with the same period of 2017.
In November, China imported about 2.92 million tonnes of bauxite from Guinea, the biggest source country to China in the month, with a MOM increase of 14.8%. Australia ranked as the second biggest source country, from which China imported about 2.91 million tonnes, up by about 8.3% MOM. China imported about 1.17 million tonnes of bauxite from Indonesia, the third biggest source country to China in November, and the import volume was up sharply by 164% MOM.
Bauxite miners in Indonesia were granted new export quota successively starting late October, which led to the sharp increase in export volume in November. At the same time, the rain season gradually came to an end in Guinea where the supply of bauxite also increased significantly.
In addition, China imported about 160,000 tonnes of bauxite from Solomon Islands, up by about 41.6% MOM, while China imported about 146,400 tonnes from Brazil, up slightly by 0.3% MOM. China's import volume of bauxite from Ghana was 110,000t, up from 0t in October, and that from India was 57,000t, up sharply from 50t in October. During the same month, China imported about 44,000t from Malaysia, down by 8.7% MOM.
