1. Market Highlights
Prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese leading markets recorded an upward trend in October, supported by the increased production cost. Stocks went down gradually after the National Day holiday with prices keeping moving up and demand strengthening in most regions. In addition, steel mills will be asked to produce rebar according to the New National Standard, by which more alloys will be used in production. Steel mills will try to lift prices on higher production cost in the coming month. However, the demand from downstream industries will shrink in Northern parts of China as building sites will be shut down in winter.
In the international market, export prices of wire rod and rebar from China fell by USD10-20/t this month due to the fierce competition and weak demand from overseas customers.
Taking all factors into consideration, insiders predict that in the coming month prices of wire rod and rebar in Chinese market will fluctuate at high levels but stay at the similar level as they were in October.
