NDRC: four major tasks to be performed to boost upgrading of steel mills

Cai Ronghua, the vice director of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, announced on August 16th that it remains a heavy task to remove excessive capacities of steel in 2018 on the whole, adding that tasks related to capacity removal in steel industry shall be performed so as to boost the transformation and upgrading of steel mills. Going forward, four tasks shall be focused; firstly, problems related to zombie companies shall be further handled; secondly, high quality capacities shall be cultivated; thirdly, technology development shall be accelerated and the work related to stable quality of steel and variety of high-end steel materials shall be attached great importance; lastly, steel mills shall be encouraged to conduct mergers and restructuring with eligible steel mills to be allowed to conduct trans-regional restructuring among different economic ownership to improve high quality capacities.
