Coke market faced high pressure of sliding in July when coking plants in Shanxi kept lowering their sales prices to promote sales lest their inventory increased. Many downstream steel mills had already secured sufficient inventory and were not ready to restock further. By the end of the month, with coke prices dropping three to four times, traders at ports returned to the market to rebuild stocks as they could make profits with lower purchasing costs. The high profits of downstream steel mills and increasing risks of declining supply in Shanxi as a result of increasing environmental protection pressure both supported coke market. Insiders are expecting coke prices to rebound in August.
