Tangshan to reduce iron and steel capacity by 7.81 million tons in 2018

According to the relevant departments of the Tangshan Municipal Government, this year Tangshan will reduce iron and steel capacity by 7.81 million tons, including 2.81 million tons of iron-making capacity and 5 million tons of steel-making capacity. At present, the indicators have been implemented to all units at all levels and are required to be completed by the end of November.
Tangshan is a big city in China's iron and steel industry. While promoting the local economic development, the steel industry also brings serious pollution and resource consumption. In recent years, Tangshan actively responded to the national industrial policy and took the initiative to speed up the "capacity reduction". Since 2013, the city has reduced a total of 70.22 million tons of steel and iron production capacity, exceeding the five-year resolution task of Hebei Province.
At present, there are still many problems in the Tangshan iron and steel industry. Some of the production capacity is in the urban (county) built-up area and tourism planning area, while the coastal capacity is low. In addition, the industrial parks in some districts and counties are dominated by iron and steel industry, with low product grades and low correlation degree for industrial layout.
Therefore, Tangshan is advancing the transformation from a big city for iron and steel smelting to a big and strong city for iron and steel industry through the reduction of total volume, excellent layout, quality improvement, chain extension and pollution control. By 2020, Tangshan will completely retire the blast furnaces of below 1000 cubic meters, the converters of below 100 tons and the sintering machine of below 180 square meters, and gradually phase out the blast furnaces of below 1500 cubic meters and the converters of below 150 tons. The current 40 iron and steel enterprises in Tangshan will be integrated into 30 or less, and will be reduced to 25 by 2025.
