Baowu Steel Group signs cooperation agreement with Shanghai municipal government

On July 4th, Shanghai municipal government ("the Government") signed a cooperation agreement ("the Agreement") with Baowu Steel Group ("the Company") to advance the overall transformation and upgrading of Wusong region ("the Region").
According to the Agreement, the Government and the Company will further strengthen the comprehensive cooperation and further promote the overall transformation and upgrading of the Region in accordance with the principle of unified planning and cooperative development; in addition, by taking the Region as an important carrier to implement national strategies, they will improve the industrial concentration and display degree and strive to make the Region a demonstration area for high-quality development, economic transformation and upgrading, and excellent urban construction. The Government will increase policy support for the transformation and upgrading of the Region, and the Company will actively adjust its industrial structure. Both sides will establish a cooperative development mechanism as soon as possible and launch the transformation and development plan of relevant regions.
Both sides will actively implement the spirit of the national convention on ecological and environmental protection. The Company will take the lead in energy conservation and emissions reduction and control of coal consumption, significantly reduce the iron/steel ratio, accelerate the clean energy alternative of self-generation power plant, and gradually reduce and eventually eliminate coal-fired power generation. What's more, it will make sure to complete the requirements which were issued by the Government about the energy conservation and emissions reduction and control of coal consumption and become the most competitive steel production enterprise in the world which adapts to the resource and environment requirements of the international metropolis. Since 2012, the Company has reduced annual capacity of 5.93 million tons of iron and 7.5 million tons of steel and energy consumption of 4.71 million tons of standard coal, 2,054t of SO2, and 296t of chemical oxygen demand and over fulfilled the planned structural adjustment of iron and steel industry.
