Chinese scrap metal imports down sharply by 25% YOY in January 2018

According to the statistics of China's General Administration of Customs, Chinese scrap metal imports in January 2018 were 490,000t, the lowest since February 2016, down by 25.1% YOY. In particular, China's imports of copper scrap in January were 200,000t, down by 27.5% YOY; those for aluminum scrap were 190,000t, up by 11% YOY; those for steel scrap were 100,000t, down by 52.4% YOY. January is the first full month since Chinese government implemented the new rules on the import of overseas scrap materials.
