It is reported that Toshiba has successfully developed a new generation of lithium-ion battery for vehicles - SCiB, which is an upgrading material of the super lithium-ion battery launched in 2008. This product has high energy and density as well as quick charging efficiency. It could obtain 90% of power only with 6-minute charge; while for the traditional battery, only 80% of power could be charged after 30 minutes.
Toshiba noted that the technology applied titanium-niobium oxide anode as material, which is a significant advance of the current lithium-lion battery technology and may have great influence on the endurance and performance of electric vehicles. The new battery is likely to be applied in the commercial area in 2019.
