CISA: China's iron ore imports increase by 5% YOY to 1.075 billion tons

Wang Yingsheng, deputy secretary-general of CISA, introduced the operation of China's iron ore industry in 2017 on January 18 at the annual meeting of Beijing Iron Ore Trading Center held in Guangzhou.
According to the data revealed at the meeting, from January to November in 2017, the global output of pig iron was 1.081 billion tons, up by 1.5% YOY, while China's pig iron output was 656 million tons, up by 2.3% YOY, accounting for 60.8% of the global output.
As for iron ore, China imported 1.075 billion tons of iron ore in 2017, up by 5.0% YOY. From the respective of increase, the imports of international four mines (Vale, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and FMG) all increased. In addition, the imports of Kara of Ansteel, Citic Taifu and regions like Iran, India and South Africa all increased sharply. In 2017, China imported iron ore from: Australia and Brazil accounting for 61% and 21% respectively, South Africa which ranked third and was followed by Iran, India and some other countries and regions with more fines pellets.
