During January, despite that the ferrosilicon manufactures’ opening rate kept lower than 50%, prices for Chinese ferrosilicon moved down slightly. One crucial reason was because of the weak demand in the domestic market. By the end of January, ferrosilicon 72%min and 75%min prices went down by RMB100/t (USD14.5/t) and RMB250/t (USD36.3/t) respectively.
During January, affected by the domestic market price, the export prices reduced accordingly. Due to the fact that Spring Festival was around the corner, part of the manufacturers and traders lowered the sale prices to quickly recoup funds. As of the end of January, 72%min and 75%min prices decreased about USD90/t and USD80/t from the beginning of the month.
