Vietnam Steel Association expected that Vietnam will consume about 17 million tons of steel in 2017, mainly including four kinds of steel: building steel, cold rolled steel, steel plating and color steel. Vietnam produced 17.5 million tons of steel in 2016, up by 16.8% YOY and consumed 15.3 million tons of steel, up by 23.7% YOY. The output for building steel was 8.5 million tons, up by 18.3% and consumption was 8.4 million tons, up by 20.6% YOY.
Vietnam needs to import raw material and semi-finished products to process because they can’t produce hot-rolled steel and alloy steel. Meanwhile, Vietnam also exports steel. Their exports were USD2.4 billion in 2016, up by 18.1 YOY and their export markets are mainly ASEAN countries and America.
