The silicomanganese market saw sparse spot transactions with steel mills generally finishing purchases in the first ten days of September. Producers lowered their prices slightly to stimulate sales. Prices for silicomanganese surged due to constantly sharp rise in manganese ore prices during the second ten days of the month. Steel mills set their tender prices at the end of the month when the price rise witnessed by silicomanganese slowed down. There is no obvious improvement in end demand, but steel mills start to make purchases before the National Day holiday. Therefore, it is expected that prices for silicomanganese will tend to stabilize in the following two weeks.
Prices for manganese ore continued to move up due to tight spot supply and higher CIF prices. However, market transactions were scarce as buyers only made hand-to-mouth purchases. Market participants indicated that there is still room for manganese ore prices to go up before manganese futures for September delivery arrives at ports.
