As production costs moved up further, ferrochrome prices continued to rise sharply this month. Domestic steel mills generally raised their tender prices for high carbon ferrochrome in November with Baosteel raising their purchase price by RMB2,500/t (USD362/t) from October to RMB9,500/t (USD1,376/t) delivered to the plant by cash. Most producers who expect to see higher prices in the coming two weeks are reluctant to sell the material at the moment, while traders have the intention of lifting purchase prices.
As CIF prices continued to rise and spot supply at domestic ports was tight, prices for chrome ore at ports climbed up further this month. Steel mills raised their tender prices substantially in November, which may cause chrome ore demand to increase in domestic market. It is expected that prices for chrome ore are likely to increase further in November.
