The import increase in August was mainly attributed to supplies from Australia, Guinea, Malaysia, Brazil and India. In addition, Chinese demand increase was a big support to the figure.
In August, Australia remained the biggest bauxite supplier to China, with the volume of 2.24 million tons, a record high in history, followed by Guinea and Malaysia with the volume at around 1 million tons and 0.51 million tons respectively. In August, more illegal bauxite stocks in Malaysia were allowed for export, leading to supply increase. In July, the bauxite shipment capacity reached 1 million tons in Guinea, resulting in import increase in August. However, the volume may not be stable due to rainfall in August and September.
