The Chinese gallium metal 99.99%min market continued to be weak in March. Suppliers concluded limited transactions in the spot market due to the lack of inquiries, while end users were still purchasing from hand to mouth. Most producers were unwilling to accept a price of less than RMB700/kg (USD108/kg), while others made lower quotations to stimulate sales. However, the spot market didn’t see any increase in transactions, as end users were not interested in lower prices any more. In order to arrest the downward price trend being witnessed by gallium metal, Beijing Jiya Semiconductor Material Co., Ltd., Shanxi Zhaofeng Gallium Co., Ltd. and Guangxi Debao Gallium Co., Ltd., jointly announced they were halting or reducing production in late March to limit the supply of material. Although the joint plan was generally supported by gallium metal producers, it was still hard to see prices for the material rebounding, as the oversupply won’t change in the short term.
