Mainstream prices for Chinese high carbon ferrochrome dipped at the beginning of the month as domestic steel mills lowered their purchase prices for the material. As a result, market participants’ confidence was dampened again. However, prices for the material rebounded slightly with spot transactions increasing during mid-to-late March. Prices for low and extra-low carbon ferrochrome held flat with relatively stable supply early this month. Steel mills started to make purchases in the middle of the month, but producers mainly arranged production based on contracts with limited stocks on hand. Therefore, prices for the two materials went up remarkably with insufficient supply.
Spot prices for chrome ore at Chinese ports held stable during the month. As a smaller amount of imported chrome ore arrived at Chinese ports and the chrome ore price moved up slightly in overseas market, domestic traders kept their spot prices unchanged despite the decline in high carbon ferrochrome prices at the beginning of the month. However, traders wanted to raise their chrome ore prices slightly with ferrochrome prices showing an upward trend at the end of the month.
