The tight supply of ferromanganese and silicomanganese in the Chinese market early March and synchronous sharp increases of tender prices both stimulated the market confidence. Plants successively raised prices for ferromanganese and silicomanganese, significantly improving market deals. In the second half of the month, deals were slowed down and most market participants marked down the price slightly with watchful attitudes. Steel mills started tenders for April in late March and the alloy price saw a slight increase in late the month due to rising enquiries of ferromanganese and silicomanganese based on continuously increasing prices for manganese ores.
Most manganese ore traders held pessimistic attitude towards the future market around the Spring Festival holiday and reduced imports sharply, resulting in tight spot manganese ore stocks at the port in March. In addition, in view of the surging alloy price and rebounding demand of manganese ore, traders consecutively raised prices and held back for sales. The tightness hadn’t been relieved until imported manganese ore arrived at port gradually in late March. The price increase was accordingly slowed down and came to the stable track. The price for imported ores also continued to increase influenced by the improving demand.
