Affected by the Spring Festival holiday, steel mills stocked up on ferromanganese and silicomanganese from late January. After entering February, most ferromanganese and silicomanganese producers were busy with carrying out supply contracts, resulting in limited transactions and stable prices in the spot market. One week after the Spring Festival, most market participants held a wait-and-see attitude towards the market as they had just returned from the Spring Festival holiday. Affected by the increasing prices for steel products, steel mills successively purchased manganese alloys. As a result, manganese alloys were in short supply but with significantly increasing prices.
Transactions for manganese ore were limited in the spot market during the Spring Festival. Traders generally held stocks and watched on the sideline one week after the Spring Festival holiday. Because spot stocks in ports were tight and prices for manganese alloys increased substantially, prices for manganese ore went up significantly.
