Some large steel mills have finished the ferrochrome purchase for February and March in January, so in early March, domestic ferrochrome producers mainly supply to steel mills directly, the stocks are reducing on the spot market, but the market sees few purchase activities, so mainstream market prices don’t make a big fluctuation. However, purchase activities increase slightly, and the prices moved up by RMB50/t (USD7.59/t).
Many ferrochrome producers resumed production in March, but most producers held adequate stocks of chrome ore or there were materials in long-term contracts to arrive at ports, so chrome ore purchase volume reduces obviously on the spot market. Meanwhile, traders were reluctant to decrease the prices further due to the meager profit, so mainstream market prices hold stable this month. However, South African concentrate chrome ore demand keeps strong and the prices increase a little with more purchase activities in late March.
