A Malaysian bauxite owner reported that they exported around 200,000t of the material in December. “We are still allowed to export 170,000t of bauxite according to permits in 2015,” said the source . “However, the government did not issue new permits for 2016 yet.”
According to the source, local government plans to suspend bauxite export during January and March due to illegal mining activities and environmental pollution.
As the source revealed, current prices for bauxite Al 45% Si 5% remained at around USD42-43/t FOB Malaysia, but Chinese buyers asked for USD39/t FOB Malaysia, so the price may go down a bit in January.
Another Malaysian bauxite owner confirmed that they did not get new permits yet, and it became difficult to apply for new permits. “The local government controls the approval process and volumes,” said the source.
The owner exported around 250,000t of bauxite in December and prices for bauxite Al 45% Si 5% are around USD42-43/t FOB Malaysia. If the price dropped to below USD42/t, deals will become difficult, stated the source.
