In November, the Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min market was quiet on the whole with limited spot activity, showing no signs of improvement as we approach the end of the year. End users still mainly focused on consuming stocks and only made minor purchases in the spot market when necessary. Larger producers were in no hurry to cut prices to promote sales as they found the pressure on stocks relieved thanks to the 30t of national reserves at year-end, and hence were firm on their quotations. According to the statistics from Asian Metal, China produced 8,200kg of germanium metal 99.99%min in October, down slightly by 3.5% compared with 8,500kg in September, although output was almost stable as a whole. Altogether, nine producers are still in production currently, four of them from Yunnan, two from Inner Mongolia and one each from Jiangsu, Guangdong and Hunan. It is anticipated that producers who remain active are unlikely to reduce their output further in the first two months of 2016.
