Malaysian welded pipe market quiet

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Dec 15 - Welded pipe prices witness a flat trend in Malaysia and the market runs quietly at this moment. Currently, mainstream price of welded pipe Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,250-2,300/t (USD523-535/t). Insiders foresee an inactive welded pipe market in Malaysia in following several weeks.
A trader in Pahang reports to Asian Metal that his price of BS1387 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,250/t (USD523/t), unchanged compared with that of last week.
The source confirms a quiet welded pipe market in Malaysia at this moment. According to him, his current daily sales volume is only 70-80t against 100t during the corresponding period of last year. He tells Asian Metal the downstream construction industry hasn’t shown any signs of improving since early Q4 and the sales performance for most local traders is not satisfying. He doesn’t believe that local welded pipe market will recover in the near future.
Another trader in Selangor discloses that his price of ASTM A53 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,300/t (USD535/t), the same as that of last week.
The source purchases welded pipe from local importers. According to him, Chinese average export price for welded pipe has been stable at USD320/t FOB Tianjin Port in recent several weeks. Considering the firm purchasing cost, he keeps his offers unchanged temporarily. However, since the demand from end users is not strong, he is cautious about holding stocks and only has a small inventory of 3,000t against 5,000t early this year. He foresees a quiet welded pipe market in the remaining days of this year.
