The price of Chinese selenium powder 99.9%min remained flat before mid-October, seeing little fluctuation as the domestic producers insisted on holding the price firm, although the domestic demand was sluggish. However, the price for the domestic selenium powder began to slump gradually since mid and late October with the increasingly quiet market and the gradual decline of the selenium powder price in the oversea market. Most of the domestic traders and producers indicated that the current selenium powder market is extremely lifeless with limited transactions. Meanwhile, the domestic electrolytic manganese market continued to move downward, more and more producers stopped and reduced production and the demand for selenium dioxide was sluggish with more fierce competition of producers; as a result, the price of selenium dioxide had started to fall since mid-October and leveled off at the end of the month. But the producers had difficulty in selling and the price remained to see a downward trend.
The price for tellurium metal 99.99%min continued to see a falling trend in October and the total decrease was RMB50/kg in October which was higher than the figure of RMB35/kg in September. Besides the sluggish demand for tellurium metal in China, the transactions in the oversea market were limited as well in October. As a result, the price for the tellurium metal in the oversea market slumped significantly in October. Market participants revealed that even when the quotation was at USD30/kg, there were still no buyers in the market. It is expected that the tellurium metal price will continue to see a downward trend with no improvement in November.
