Malaysian welded pipe market sluggish

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Oct 15 - Welded pipe prices are temporarily unchanged in Malaysia, while the market is quite sluggish without the strong downstream demand. Currently, mainstream price of welded pipe Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,250-2,300/t (USD539-551/t). Insiders deem that the Malaysian welded pipe market will remain inactive in following several weeks.
A trader in Pahang reports to Asian Metal that his price of BS1387 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,300/t (USD551/t), unchanged compared with that of last week.
The source tells Asian Metal that the demand for welded pipe has been insufficient for a long period and his sales performance showed no signs of improving in past several weeks. Currently, his daily sales volume is only 8-10t, while it was 15-20t during the corresponding period of last year. Considering end users’ inactive purchasing attitudes, he doesn’t believe that local welded pipe market will recover in the near future.
Another trader in Selangor discloses that his price of ASTM A53 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,250/t (USD539/t), the same as that of last week.
The source tells Asian Metal that the average export price for regular sized welded pipe from China has been stable at USD350-360/t FOB Tianjin Port in recent two weeks. Therefore, as an importer and trader, he also stabilizes his quotations accordingly. However, he complains that the demand from downstream industries has been weak since the beginning of Q3. As a result, now he only holds a small stock of 200t against 300-400t early this year to avoid risks.
