Vietnamese welded pipe market sluggish

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Aug 15 - Vietnamese welded pipe market runs slowly at this moment, while market prices are temporarily unchanged. The mainstream price of welded pipe SS400 Φ114.3mm*(2.0-4.8)mm is VND11,500,000-11,860,000/t (USD515-530/t). Considering the soft downstream demand, insiders don’t believe Vietnamese welded pipe market will recover in the near future.
A trader in Dong Nai reports to Asian Metal that the price of SS400 Φ114.3mm*(2.0-4.8)mm is VND11,860,000/t (USD530/t), unchanged compared with that of last week.
The source tells Asian Metal that downstream demand has been insufficient during this month to date and there is no promising news from relevant industries at this moment. Most of his customers just purchase in small quantities to meet their urgent needs and his current sales performance is worse than that of last month. His sales volume was 12,000t in July, but he is afraid that it will be less than 10,000t this month.
Another steel trader in Hanoi tells Asian Metal that his quotation for SS400 Φ114.3mm*(4.0-4.5)mm is VND11,640,000/t (USD520/t), the same as that of last week.
According to him, though local market prices showed no obvious changes in recent two weeks, they have decreased a lot since July due to the weak downstream demand. He tells Asian Metal that his current price is VND560,000/t (USD25/t) lower than the average price in July. He says that downstream demand is unlikely to pick up during the rainy season. Holding a small stock of 2,000-3,000t against 5,000t in Q1 and Q2, he prefers to hold a wait-and-see attitude towards the forthcoming market.
