Malaysian welded pipe market slow

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 6 Aug 15 - Welded pipe prices witness a flat trend in Malaysia at this moment, while the market runs slowly without strong downstream demand. Insiders deem that the Malaysian welded pipe market will remain inactive in following several weeks.
A trader in Pahang reports to Asian Metal that his price of BS1387 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,350/t (USD620/t), unchanged compared with that of last week.
The source tells Asian Metal that the demand for welded pipe is quite soft in local market at this moment. According to him, though the Ramadan is over and most market participants have finished their holidays for the Lesser Bairam, the sales performance for local traders shows no signs of improving. Currently, his sales volume is 100-150tpd against 200-300tpd before the Ramadan. He believes that local welded pipe market will remain sluggish for some time.
Another trader in Selangor discloses that his price of ASTM A53 Φ114.3mm*3.75mm is MYR2,300/t (USD607/t), the same as that of last week.
The source confirms a stable welded pipe price in local market, while he also reports a dim market at this moment. According to him, the demand from downstream oil and construction industry is not strong at this moment, and the welded pipe market is hard to recover under such a condition. To avoid risks, he has reduced his stockpile from 300-400t at the beginning of this year to the current one of 100t. He foresees a dim welded pipe market in following several weeks.
