BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Jun 15 - Because of the transportation control policy in Malaysia, costs for mining companies climbed up. However, low grade Malaysian bauxite prices remain stable at around USD29-30/t FOB Malaysia
A bauxite importer from China reported that they imported 45,000t of high-grade Malaysian bauxite Al 47%min Si 5%max in June. “The price is USD56-57/t CIF China, unchanged compared to last month,” said the source, adding that they have imported four ships of high-grade bauxite from Malaysia in total this year.
According to the source, they will import another ship of high-grade bauxite Al 47% Si 13%max from Johor, Malaysia in July. “Many mining companies purchase bauxite washing equipments, and high-grade bauxite supply will increase,” said the source.
A bauxite owner in Malaysia confirmed that they will prepare 40,000-50,000t of washed bauxite Al 48-49% Si 4%max in late June. “It will be the first ship of high-grade bauxite from our mine,” said the source, who believed that the price should be a bit higher than USD47/t FOB Malaysia.
As the source revealed, total Malaysian bauxite supply becomes less, as many illegal mining companies halted production due to the strict land transportation policy. The monthly export volume may decline to 1 . 2-1 . 5 million tonnes from 2 million tonnes, predicted the source.
“We own essential licenses, so our export volume remains stable at around 300,000t in June,” said the source, who anticipated that prices for bauxite Al 40%min Si 5%max may climb up to USD34/t FOB Malaysia two months later because of the export volume decrease.
