BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 May 15 - The bauxite land transportation remains a problem in Malaysia, and Chinese bauxite imports from Malaysia will reduce in May
A bauxite supplier in Malaysia reported that the price remains at around USD30/t FOB Malaysia for bauxite Al 40% Si5%max on a par with that in April. “We exported around 6 ships of bauxite in April, but may only export 4 ships of bauxite in May,” said the source, adding that land transportation problem is not solved.
According to the source, China’s imported bauxite stocks remain sufficient, so the Malaysian bauxite price is not in a position to move up quickly. In addition, there are some uncertain factors like Indonesia bauxite export policy.
A Chinese bauxite trader confirmed that the price for Malaysian bauxite Al 40-41% Si 5%max was around USD40-41/t CIF China in late April. “We concluded around 70,000t of the material late last month, and prices are unchanged this month,” said the source.
The trader illustrated that negotiations with Chinese consumers go slow and it is difficult for them to raise offers. “We do not import bauxite this month because of slow negotiations,” said the source.
The trader noted that Malaysian bauxite land transportation problem only affects some small-sized owners without licenses, but those big owners with permits are not influenced.
